Cooley: Redshirting Drew Edwards “definitely a possibility”

For those Friar fans wondering where Drew Edwards has been lately — he sat out Providence’s final non-conference game against Boston College last week — Ed Cooley may have hinted at a potential answer: Edwards might get shut down to redshirt. The possibility was raised during the Big East coaches media teleconference on Tuesday morning. Cooley mentioned that Edwards has struggled to get back up to speed following his offseason knee surgery.

Chin Up, Friar Fans. Big East Play is Looming

Friar fans, you need to fight that feeling. No, not the one REO Speedwagon sings about. I’m talking about that pit in your stomach that’s been there since around 6pm on December 23rd. Despite a rather unceremonious ending to the non-conference part of their schedule, the Providence Friars had a good start to the season. 10-3. That’s better than the 9-4 I predicted and they certainly are further along at this point than I anticipated, losing to the lowly Boston College Eagles notwithstanding. In a year that was supposed to be all about development of young talent to bring them along for future years this has been a fun group to watch and some of those green players appear ready to help right now, notably Kalif Young.

Providence, Big East Bracketology Update 12/22/16

ESPN and CBS Sports have released updated brackets this week and we’ll continue to track the minutae of each bracketology update so you don’t have to.

After debuting last week inside the field of 68 for both ESPN’s bracket by Joe Lunardi the Friars also entered CBSSports.com’s latest bracket by Jerry Palm on Monday. The information below is from Monday’s Palm bracket and Lunardi’s latest release out today. The Friars improved to 10-2 in the non-conference on Tuesday night with a 20-point win over Maine at home and will finish up their pre-Big East slate on Friday at Conte Forum against Boston College. Here’s this week’s bracketology update for Providence, the rest of the Big East and Providence’s non-conference opponents.
