2017 PF Victor Enoh Cuts List, Sets Visit to Providence

List cutting season continues with the July live periods over and done with and players looking to simplify their recruitments as the high school year rapidly approaches. Another 2017 big man has included Providence among his cut-down list and this time it’s Victor Enoh. Enoh’s final list is comprised of Arkansas, Oregon State, Providence and Vanderbilt. In the article linked in the prior sentence, Davenport reports that Enoh plans to visit Providence the weekend of September 10th, which is the same weekend Providence is scheduled to host Nate Watson. I subsequently confirmed with Enoh’s high school coach, Larry Thompson, that the visit is actually scheduled for September 16th-18th.

Makai Ashton-Langford Moves Up Visit to Providence

Multiple sources have informed pcbb1917.com that 2017 point guard Makai Ashton-Langford has moved up his visit to Providence — originally scheduled for September 17th — to Wednesday, August 31st. He is expected on campus as early as 1pm. This comes on the heels of Ashton-Langford moving up his visit to UConn from September 10th to September 3rd. The September 3rd visit was originally supposed to be taken to Louisville but the Cardinals got a pledge from another point guard in the class of 2017 and were removed from consideration by the Worcester native.

UPDATE 1:43pm, 8/31: I was told today’s visit is not an official visit for Ashton-Langford.

Providence Recruiting Update: ESPN Released Their Class of 2018 Top 60

After releasing their updated Top 100 for the Class of 2017 on Wednesday, ESPN dropped their Top 60 for the Class of 2018 on Thursday. The Friars have already been recruiting the Class of 2018 in earnest with first direct contact for these rising juniors occurring on June 15th. With the current roster construction and scholarship situation, Ed Cooley and his staff have 5 open scholarships for the 2018-19 season. However that doesn’t account for the potential for Providence to add at least one more player to their 2017 recruiting class. Here are the Providence recruits that made ESPN’s Top 60 in the Class of 2018:

  • #7 – Khavon Moore – SF – Westside HS/Macon, GA
  • #10 – Naz Reid – PF – Roselle Catholic/Neptune, NJ
  • #16 – Hameir Wright – SF – The Albany Academy/Albany, NY
  • #21 – Keldon Johnson – SG – Huntington Prep/South Hill, VA
  • #27 – Jalen Smith – PF – Mount St. Joseph/Baltimore, MD

Providence Recruiting Update: ESPN, Scout Release Updated Class of 2017 Top 100’s

With summer winding down and players heading back to their high schools and prep schools ESPN and Scout have released updated versions of the Top 100’s for the Class of 2017. The rising seniors on these lists are still mostly uncommitted with 36 and 38 of the 100 committed on ESPN’s and Scout’s lists, respectively. The Big East has 4 commits in ESPN’s Top 100 and 5 in Scout’s. The two services differ largely on where Providence’s top big man recruit ranks, but they are in relative agreement about the Friar’s top guard recruit. Here’s where Providence recruits fit on both lists, along with some notable Big East commits and former Providence targets:

Ed Cooley Underwent Back Surgery on Monday

Providence fans are all very familiar with Ed Cooley’s dramatic physical transformation after dropping over 100 pounds following a weight-reduction surgery in July of 2012. Friar fans will also recall Cooley’s issues with vertigo and dehydration that flared up in both the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. On Monday, Cooley underwent back surgery because of pain caused by a herniated disc. The news was first reported by Matt Norlander of CBSSports.com.
