PC Hockey To Play For A Spot In The Frozen Four at 3pm Today
Nate Leaman will take on his former employer in Union College for a chance to get to the Frozen Four in Philadelphia. Some would argue the team that has had all this success at Union is because Nate Leaman built this Union team but I’m sure you won’t hear that from him. He respects the current coach and program too much to think selfishly. But the reality is that most of the players are there because of Leaman and the commitment to the program and facility upgrades are because of Leaman. He has brought the same thing to Providence. PC was in their first NCAA Tournament since 2001 and hadn’t won an NCAA Tournament game since 1991. The last time the hockey Friars made an appearance in the Frozen Four was 1985.
The bottom line is that Friartown is a great place to be these days. Lets hope Coach Leaman and the hockey Friars can keep the dream alive.
Be sure to tune in to the Friars battle against Union at 3pm on ESPN2.
PC Lacrosse To Play St. John’s On Fox Sports 1 At 6pm Today
The PC Lacrosse team will take on St. John’s tonight at 6pm on Fox Sports 1. The game is the first ever college lax game to be shown on FS1 and will be the only regular season Big East game to be televised on the network. FS1 will also show the Big East Championship game on May 3rd.
The two Big East foes will faceoff on the new Ray Treacy Track Complex field. The first 200 students in attendance will get a tank top. Who doesn’t love tank tops?
PC is 3-6 so far on the season and 0-1 in conference play, falling to Rutgers on 3/15 by the score of 12-6. The Friars 3 victories have come against Vermont, Boston University and Fairfield. PC is coming off a heartbreaking defeat at home against the #12 ranked Bryant Bulldogs.
St. John’s is 5-3 on their season so far and 1-0 in the conference with their Big East win coming at home against Georgetown. The Red Storm are riding a 3 game winning streak which includes their victory over the Hoyas followed by two wins against Long Island opponents with a home win against Hofstra and a road win at Stony Brook.

#pcbb Weekly Recruiting Update 3/28/14
- I’ve added a Recruiting Updates (see below for the permanent location on the home page) page which will be dedicated to recruiting info and recruiting targets. For the offseason, I’ll be keeping a list of all PC targets for 2014 that either get a release because of a coach firing or if a player wants to play his 5th year somewhere else and PC is recruiting that player. Make sure to check it out.
- 2014 PG Kyron Cartwright recently got his release from Loyola Marymount after their coach, Max Good was let go. The left handed lead guard is currently visiting Providence. Craig Belhumeur of FriarBasketball.com spoke with Cartwright and his HS coach, Anthony Thomas. Thomas has a relationship with PC Associate Head Coach, Andre LaFleur from their days playing AAU together for Slam n Jam out on the West coast in the early 1980’s. Make sure to check out Craig’s article for quotes from both Thomas and Cartwright. Cartwright talks about what he likes about PC so far and what he would do if Cooley extended an offer. Great stuff from Craig B!
- Another name for 2014 point guards is Malik Pugh. He committed to UNC Wilmington in February but a coaching change has caused him to open up his recruitment. PC is checking up on him and he is a potential candidate to fill out one of PC’s remaining scholarships for 2014. Pugh is a scoring guard who put up 20 ppg this season for Dyer HS in Tennessee including going for 37 in his final HS game. The knock on him is his size but he seems to like playing with that chip on his shoulder.
