Another day and another bracketology update. The last update came on January 12th when Jerry Palm released his latest bracket and Joe Lunardi released his latest bracket math. Palm has updated his bracket as of 12:30pm ET on January 14th and Lunardi came out with his updated bracket today.
Lunardi’s last bracket was released on January 5th and he had 7 Big East teams in the field of 68. The Big East continues to have 7 teams in Lunardi’s January 15th bracket but some of the seeding has changed.
CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm has released his latest Bracketology on Monday after updating his bracket on Friday morning. The weekend saw a lot of top teams go down so it makes sense Palm would want to update his bracket this soon. ESPN’s Joe Lunardi also released his latest “Bracket Math” Monday after a weekend that saw teams like Duke, Wisconsin and Arizona all lose.
As of last Friday, Palm had 8 Big East teams in the field of 68 but that included DePaul as the automatic qualifier for the league as they entered the weekend in 1st place at 3-0. A drubbing by Villanova on Saturday has dropped the Blue Demons into a 4-way tie for 1st place with Villanova, Seton Hall and Providence. That also means DePaul’s spot in the field of 68 is gone.
Here is a breakdown of Palm’s bracket for all Big East teams as of 1/12/15:
Joe Lunardi and Jerry Palm both released updated brackets on Monday this week. Lunardi released his “Bracket Math” on Thursday and now Palm has decided to update his bracket again on Friday morning. Palm’s Monday bracket had just 5 Big East teams in the field of 68. I’m not sure what exactly changed between Monday and Friday that was so significant but Palm is now mirroring Lunardi’s latest “Bracket Math” with 8 Big East teams in the NCAA Tournament field with DePaul getting in as a 15 seed as the automatic qualifier because they sit atop the league standings at 3-0 right now.
Here is a breakdown of Palm’s bracket for all Big East teams:
Palm’s bracket has 6 Big East teams in the field of 68 with seeds ranging from 2-12. While Lunardi’s bracket through games on December 7th had 7 Big East teams in the field, Palm has had the chance to remove Providence following their loss at home to Brown. He has also pumped up St. John’s and Seton Hall.
ALL CAPS: Highest remaining seed or AQ (automatic qualifier)
GREEN: Teams with tourney odds of 75 percent or better through games of Dec. 7.
YELLOW: “Last Four In” (would play Mar. 17-18 in Dayton, Oh.)
GOLD: Lowest four auto bids (would play Mar. 17-18 in Dayton, Oh.)
RED: “First Four Out” (teams 69-72 on the S-Curve)
PURPLE: “Next Four Out” (teams 73-76 on the S-Curve)
The line opened with Providence as a 2.5 point road favorite at Boston College. Kenpom.com has Providence winning the game by 2, 65-63.
There has already been some movement on that line with most Vegas establishments moving the line up to Providence -4.5 at the writing of this post. That same trend is holding firm at the Offshore books as well. Providence has only played 1 other road game which was their 20 point loss at Kentucky so there isn’t much in the way of betting trends for the 2014-15 season for the Friars when they are on the road.
I’ll update this post as the line continues to move.
