Providence vs. Navy: Lineup Analysis
Fans have been keeping a close eye on the different lineups and substitution patterns that Ed Cooley has been using through the first 3 games of the 2014-15 season. Substitution is not something Friar fans have been used to thinking about for the last few years with Providence finishing 350th, 2nd from last, nationally last season in % of bench minutes at 14.1%, per Kenpom.com. While the season is early and the data is small in terms of sample size, Providence currently ranks 116th in % of bench minutes at 33.3%.
Richard Coren over at Scout Friars has been doing a good job putting together the different lineups and the +/- by player (Binghamton and Navy). I’ve taken a more detailed look at each lineup in chronological order of usage, minutes played during that usage and the scoring numbers while they were on the floor for each half. After a few more games are completed and the data sample grows I’ll do a follow up post analyzing the most and least productive lineups so far.
