The updated player rankings from Scout.com continue and this week they updated their Class of 2018 rankings. Providence has a host of players on this list ranging from a local Providence native to a Canadian player attending school in Florida, not to mention some other local talent attending NEPSAC schools. The coaching staff at Providence has a clear connection in the mid-atlantic with Jeff Battle and Ivan Thomas spearheading connections there with both Boo Williams players and other area programs. Brian Blaney continues to canvass the New England prep basketball scene and Ed Cooley is everywhere. Here are players Providence is involved with on Scout’s latest Class of 2018 Top 100:
The significance of the October 12th date is that is the day Robinson turns 17. This means his announcement will come nearly a full week after his final visit to UNLV finishes on October 4th. There have been rumors swirling that Robinson is essentially down to two schools: Providence and Virginia Tech. Providence has been recruiting Robinson the longest of any of the 4 remaining coaching staffs and was the first high major to offer the left handed lead guard back in February of this year. Virginia Tech was Robinson’s first official visit back over Labor Day weekend while Providence had Robinson on campus from September 19th through the 21st along with 2015 commits Ryan Fazekas and Drew Edwards.
2015 point guard Justin Robinson announced via Twitter that he has set dates for all 5 of his official visits. His first visit will be to Virginia Tech August 29th-31st. He will then take a visit to Maryland September 12th-14th followed by Providence the next weekend, September 19th-21st. His final two visits will be in October with a trip to UNLV October 3rd-4th and Creighton October 17th-19th.
PC made an offer over the weekend to 2015 PG Justin Robinson of St. James School in DC. The southpaw transferred there after playing his first 2 seasons of high school ball at Montrose Christian. He also plays for famed AAU squad, Boo Williams, current PC Sophomore Josh Fortune’s former AAU team. Robinson has seen his stock rise from mid-major to possibly high major. PC is his first high major offer and it seems that Cooley and staff have had a way of finding these kinds of players just before their recruitment’s take off. For now, Robinson is likely a backup plan at PG for the 2015 class but he could wind up being a very solid plan B if things don’t work out with Jalen Adams.

Paschal Chukwu and the Fairfield Prep Stags remained undefeated (19-0) after winning at home against Career last night. Chuwku poured in 21 points in the win and added 11 rebounds and 8 blocked shots despite sitting for nearly 5 minutes in the 2nd half after he picked up his 4th foul. Prep is now 1 win away from a perfect regular season.
