2015 Point Guard Announces Commitment

Happy Birthday to Justin Robinson. Unfortunately for Friar fans it will be Buzz Williams and not Ed Cooley that gets Robinson’s talents for the next four years. This recruitment was played very close to the vest with Robinson and his family not giving much in terms of quotes other than the generic positive stuff about each of his final 4 schools.

At the end of the day Robinson decided to stay at home and play for the home state Hokies. While this miss hurts for Cooley and the Providence coaching staff, they have a solid class already for 2015 with Ryan Fazekas, Alex Owens and Drew Edwards already in the fold. It remains to be seen whether Cooley will go after another 2015 recruit or pocket the scholarship for a transfer or the loaded 2016 class.

Breaking Down Justin Robinson’s Choices

With the announcement/birthday weekend upon us I thought it would be a good idea to take a look at the schools 2015 PG recruit Justin Robinson is considering for his final 4. When I began writing this article I planned on doing all four schools on the list but it has become increasingly clear that this will come down to a two horse race between Providence and Virginia Tech. Maryland apparently has pulled out of the race this week and is focusing on JUCO transfer Jaylen Brantley in 2015 while UNLV always seemed like the outsider of the final group.

Let’s jump right in….

2015 PG Justin Robinson Will Announce Commitment on October 12th

Marcus Helton of DMVElite.com was the first to report that 2015 point guard recruit Justin Robinson was down to a final 4 and would make his announcement on October 12th. The final 4 will be the 4 schools where he will have taken official visits: Maryland, Providence, UNLV and Virginia Tech. Robinson had previously been scheduled to visit Creighton this past weekend but cancelled the visit on September 22nd after Creighton got a commitment from another 2015 point guard.

The significance of the October 12th date is that is the day Robinson turns 17. This means his announcement will come nearly a full week after his final visit to UNLV finishes on October 4th. There have been rumors swirling that Robinson is essentially down to two schools: Providence and Virginia Tech. Providence has been recruiting Robinson the longest of any of the 4 remaining coaching staffs and was the first high major to offer the left handed lead guard back in February of this year. Virginia Tech was Robinson’s first official visit back over Labor Day weekend while Providence had Robinson on campus from September 19th through the 21st along with 2015 commits Ryan Fazekas and Drew Edwards.

2015 PG Justin Robinson Cuts List to 6

Justin Robinson has joined a group of recent  Providence recruits to cut his list of schools down to a more manageable number. Robinson’s final 6 are Creighton, Maryland, Providence, Temple, UNLV and Virginia Tech:

Providence has been on Justin Robinson since the winter and they have taken a team approach to his recruitment with a few different coaches keeping in contact with him. Providence was the first major offer for Robinson back in February. Robinson struggled early during the AAU season because he was nursing ankle and wrist injuries but he gutted it out and played through the issues. He plays for the always loaded Boo Williams squad on the EYBL circuit. The crafty left hander transferred from DC powerhouse Montrose Christian last summer to attend St. James School which is coached by the former Montrose Christian staff that Robinson played for his first two years of high school. Robinson led the team to a 22-5 record during the high school season.

Robinson is a pure point guard who is a floor general that can run a team. He is underrated at 119th with his 247sports composite national ranking in my opinion. Robinson recently told me that he will attend the CP3 Elite Camp August 7th-11th and doesn’t plan on any other camps but will begin scheduling visits soon.
