ESPN’s Joe Lunardi Releases His Latest Bracketology 1/5/15

ESPN’s Joe Lunardi released his first bracket since his preseason one on November 12th. Many things have changed from the preseason and some shuffling is to be expected.

Here are the notable Big East results from Lunardi’s bracket:

In Lunardi’s preseason bracket he had 3 Big East teams in the field of 68 with Villanova being a #3 seed, Georgetown being a #9 seed and Providence as an #11 seed playing in the “Last Four In” category against another #11 seed. After a stellar non-conference slate by the league Lunardi now has 7 Big East teams in the field which is the most from any single conference in this bracket.

  • Villanova – #2 seed in East Region
  • Seton Hall – #5 seed in South Region
  • Butler – #6 seed in South Region
  • St. John’s – #7 seed in Midwest Region
  • Georgetown – #9 seed in East Region
  • Providence – #10 seed in South Region
  • Xavier – #11 seed in East Region (Last Four In)

If this bracket actually played out there would be a decent chance of Big East teams meeting in that South Region in the Sweet 16 with 3 teams being placed in that region. In Lunardi’s preseason bracket St. John’s was on the wrong side of the bubble and their fast start has moved them all the way in as a #7 seed. Seton Hall wasn’t even on the radar and they are the 2nd highest seeded Big East team at #5. Xavier was in the “Next Four Out” category last time and they have squeaked into the field of 68 by having a “First Round” play-in game against another #11 seed.
